Diabetes Type 2 Recommended Food List and Foods to Avoid

Diabetes Type 2 usually occurs in obese adults over the age of 40. Unfortunately today we are seeing young people developing diabetes due to their poor eating habits.

Some of the causes for diabetes are family history of diabetes, history of gestational diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension and obesity. The complications are: cardiovascular disease, kidney failure and blindness.

Treatment for diabetes is diet, exercise and medications. We will discuss the diet for diabetes.

Recommended food list:

Vegetables – eat the low starch vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, green beans and spinach.
Fish – baked or broiled at least 2 to 3 times per week
Brown Rice instead of white rice.
Whole Wheat Spaghetti and whole wheat bread
Lean meats that are baked or broiled. Removed skin from chicken and turkey.
Nonfat dairy milk such as skim milk, nonfat yogurt and nonfat cheese.

Foods to Avoid or Limit:

Limited amount of fats but use liquid oils not solid fat for cooking – eat in limited amounts.
Cut way back on desserts and snacks such as cookies, chips, and ice cream.

As you see there are no special foods just healthy choices and lifestyle changes. Decide today that you are going to reverse your diabetes and eat only the recommended foods in portion control sizes and start walking. You will be pleasantly surprised by how much better you will feel and how much a difference these simple changes will make in your blood glucose levels.
